Olymel: An Index to Give Sales Teams Analytical Autonomy
Client Case Study — Index Project
Olymel is a Canadian leader in the production, processing, and distribution of pork and poultry. The company operates a vast network of plants in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, Western Canada, and the United States, and exports its products to more than 65 countries. With thousands of employees and considerable production volumes, Olymel generates enormous amounts of data every day from its operations, supply chains, and customers.

The Challenge
Olymel’s data was spread across a multitude of systems and data providers (Nielsen, Costco, Loblaws, Sobeys, etc.), AS400, Excel files, CSV, and Parquet, each with its own product codes and business logic. This fragmentation made cross-functional analysis slow, costly, and error-prone. The business team had to rely on manually built reports, with no single source of reference and no guarantee of consistency across divisions. Olymel wanted to build a modern analytics platform capable of unifying all its data, ensuring its quality, and supporting decision-making across the entire organization.
The Solution
Ventriloc designed and built a modern data warehouse on Microsoft Fabric, structured according to a four-layer medallion architecture: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Each layer plays a specific role, from raw ingestion of source data to the delivery of enriched, compliant, consumption-ready business tables. We implemented rigorous management of slowly changing dimensions, SCD1 and SCD2, to preserve the full history of changes while ensuring optimal performance for users.
At the core of the solution, we developed a product unification mechanism combining Olymel’s internal codes with universal UPC codes, which now enables reliable cross-referencing of production, sales, and distribution data. Integrating the SODA library into the pipelines guarantees continuous quality control and regression testing with every new release. Finally, a Power BI design system was deployed to equip business users to independently create reports consistent with Olymel’s brand.
The Impact
Olymel now has a single source of truth for its operational and commercial data. Business teams can generate reliable analyses themselves, without depending on technical intervention for every request.
The integration of key partners, such as Sobeys, illustrates the platform’s ability to evolve and adapt to the organization’s strategic needs. Beyond the tools themselves, a true data culture is taking hold at Olymel, supported by a sustainable architecture and high quality standards.
Every great partnership starts with a coffee. Let’s talk!
